Harebrained Films started life in April 2004 as Twisted Monkey Films, the harebrained child of David Hare. The first and only film from the Twisted Monkey stable was Kickass Angels, a bizarre short film made for and with my friends in Sheffield, from an idea they came up with. The "story" had three girls going about their daily routines until they receive a phone call from a mysterious caller. And then they run about a lot in an attempt to get home and watch TV. And that's it. No, really. Not exactly Oscar worthy but we all have to start somewhere, don't we? The whole thing was shot on mini DV and edited using windows movie maker.  Oh, yes.  We've come a long way since then.

The idea of setting up a company and doing this full time came about when I was still in University. I didn't want to be one of those people who studied a subject but then did nothing with it. So with this, I decided that I couldn't rely on something happening out of the blue;  I believe that if you want something you have to work and work and then do some more work to make it happen. And so was born Harebrained Films; a brainwave from a very good friend of mine, Andrew Topham, Now, this guy not only came up with the name, but also designed and created the company logo.

Since we started, we've had a number of projects on the go, ranging from short films to TV programs to music videos.  A lot has changed since we set up, mainly the equipment. We now see the world through the Canon XL2 and edit using non-linear editing systems (a million miles away from the movie maker editing days). As a company, we are starting to develop and use new and creative ways to make interesting and exciting films and videos. So, watch this space!
